Foreign Aid... … is the help or assistance that we give to other countries. Main Goal: Create friendships abroad and foster future trading partners. Foreign aid comes in many forms. The most common are  economic, like money  military, like soldiers helping after a disaster  advice, like how to create a democracy

Treaties... … are a formal agreement between countries that, like laws, must be followed. The President is responsible for negotiating and signing treaties. Thousands Starving in Transyltavia! Transyltavia has been ruled by an extremely cruel dictator for decades. Only one country in the world, Hollenbeckastan, has diplomatic relations with Transyltavia. The dictator in Transyltavia spends all of the country’s money on the military while the citizens live in poverty. The world does not know much about Transyltavia because the dictator won’t let reporters into the country. However, a few people have escaped and are telling stories about thousands of people dying of starvation because of a horrible famine inside Transyltavia.

However, the U.S. and other countries worry that any food they donate will be given to the military. What diplomatic strategy should the U.S. use to solve this problem?

Schemerica Under Threat of Attack! Schemerica is a small, poor country that is friendly to the United States. Schemerica is a democracy. Last year, Schemerica discovered it is sitting on top of a huge oil reserve. Drilling this oil could raise tons of money for Schemerica. But one of Schemerica’s neighbors, Hollenbeckastan, is ruled by a dictator who wants Schemerica’s oil for his own country even though Hollenbeckastan already has a lot of oil. The United States learns that Hollenbeckastan is preparing its military to invade Schemerica.

United States Foreign Policy Latest News: Support countries with democracies & build good relationships with countries that have oil. (Treaties/Alliances) Support countries using their own natural resources to help themselves. (Foreign Aid) Take military action only when absolutely necessary. (Military) The U.S. thinks Hollenbeckastan might be building a biological weapon to use against Schemerica, but there’s not enough evidence to be sure. What diplomatic strategy should the U.S. use to solve this problem?
