What is art?

Criteria to identify art: The exercise of a human skill A creative and imaginative act Originality of the idea Provoking a response (art must communicate) and engage us at an emotional and intellectual level. Should challenge established conventions about what we accept as art (Great art must challenge conventions!) Aesthetically challenging, requiring our participation Heightens our sensual awareness Art often anticipates future trends or gives energy to new ideas, movements. Art is prophetic.
