Energy and Circuits

Energy Energy is required to make things happen Energy can be stored Batteries, fossil fuels, and food are all examples of stored energy An energy source is a place where energy comes from

Electric Current The flow of electricity through wires is called electric current Electric currents carry and transfer energy A circuit is a pathway through which electric current can flow All metals are good conductors of electricity Insulators, like plastic and glass are materials that do not transfer electric current Individual items in a circuit are called components

Electric Circuit Components D-cell (battery): Provides stored energy Switch: Opens and closes the circuit Motor: Produces motion in a complete circuit Lightbulb: Produces light in a complete circuit Wire: Provides a pathway to transfer electricity

Converting Energy Electrical energy can be converted into other types of energy. Examples: -Light (Flashlight) -Heat (Stove) -Motion (Fan) -Sound (Speakers)
