Elementary Teacher By: Taelynn Mahosky

Type of jobs within the field First, there are preschool teachers. They teach basic skills like colors, matching, letters, and sounds. They also work on teaching their kids how to follow directions. Preschool teachers teach kids that are mostly around the ages of three to five. Then there are elementary teachers. Elementary teachers teach science, social studies, math, reading, and writing skills. They also teach behaving appropriately in the classroom. Middle school teachers are another type of teacher. They have team meetings with students, parents, or other teachers. They also discuss student behavior, grades, and overall performance. Middle school teachers normally only teach one subject. Another teacher is a high school teacher. High school teachers also normally just teach one subject. Lastly, professors are college teachers. Professors work with young adults. They need to have a Master’s degree, but most often require a Doctorate in a certain subject.

Salary range for those options Preschool teachers make about 28,000 to 29,000 dollars a year. Elementary teachers make about 56,000 dollars a year. Middle school teachers make about 56,000 dollars a year. High school teachers make about 58,000 dollars a year. College professors make about 62,000 to 63,000 dollars a year.

Educational or special training requirements To begin with, all teachers must have a Bachelor’s degree, but some states require teachers to have a Master’s degree to work at middle and high schools. Elementary school teachers typically graduate from elementary education teaching programs. Elementary teachers also are required to have a state teaching license or certification to work in public schools. Teaching education programs and training can be required.

Schools or organizations that offer that education or training Michigan State University- first in the nation for its elementary graduate education programs Pennsylvania State University- offers over 30 teaching programs Harvard University- their school of education has been open for nearly 100 years University of Washington- has field-based training that prepares teachers for challenging classrooms

Special qualities and abilities needed to do the job well Passion for teaching Loves kids Understands the role of school in a child’s life Organization The willingness to reflect The ability to develop relationships with their students Patient, kind, and caring personality Have to be able to create lesson plans and teach those plans to the class High expectations Good classroom management skills

Someone well-known in the field Someone that is well-known in the teaching field is Jennifer Wahl. Jennifer won the Teacher of the Year in Pennsylvania for 2018. She teaches at Loyalsock Township High School. At the high school she teaches world history and psychology. In her free time she enjoys to travel. Jennifer has traveled to 47 countries and almost every state.

Your reaction to what you learned My reaction to what I learned is excited. Since I found out so much more information on teaching it makes me want to grow up faster so I can start teaching. I think that maybe I could consider the different types of teaching levels, but I still think I want to be an elementary teacher. From what I learned is that teachers have to do way more things then I thought. Teachers have to teach, but they also have to create lesson plans every week and grade papers. They even have to talk to parents if their child is having trouble in school or being disrespectful.
