Chapter 7 : The technological world Links and guiding controls

What is a LInk? A link is anything that helps connect two or more parts of a technical object together. Type of links Non-removable and removable links Complete and partial links

Non-removable links A non-removable link is one that cannot be removed without damaging the pieces that have been combined

Removable links A removable link is one that can be removed: the linked parts can be separated without damaging the object’s parts.

Complete links Complete links are a type of link that do not allow any movement

Partial links Partial links are a type of link that allow the parts to move

Guiding control A guiding control is a device that controls the motion of a technical object’s moving parts. Type of guiding control Translational guiding control Rotational guiding control Helical guiding control

Translational guiding control Control direct parts that need to travel in a straight line only

Rotational guiding control Control directs parts as they turn or rotate

Helical guiding control Direct the motion of a part around and along an axis
