Study of Hebrews Lesson 6

Hebrews 2:9-13 9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. 10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.

Hebrews 2:9-13 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying, " I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE CONGREGATION I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE."

Hebrews 2:9-13 13 And again, " I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM." And again, "BEHOLD, I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME."

Hebrews 2:9 9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, How was Jesus made (for a little while) lower than the angels? What does it mean that He was made a little while lower than the angels? This verse implies that there is at least some hierarchy to the created universe – what do we learn about that here?

Hebrews 2:9 9 … because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. What did Jesus do while a little lower than the angels? How does this integrate into the author’s discussion of Jesus’ superiority?

Hebrews 2:10 10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, Jesus and creation are closely tied together; how? Why does the author mention this here?

Hebrews 2:10 10 … in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. So, again, what did Jesus do for creation while a little lower than the angels? What did that act do, according to this verse?

Hebrews 2:11 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; Jesus and mankind are from one Father; so what? Not to belabor the point, but why mention “He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified”?

Hebrews 2:11 11 … for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, In writing this verse, the author essentially places what two parties in equality? And yet, we know that one party is indebted to the other because of that party’s action! How can that be?

Hebrews 2:12-13 12 saying, " I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN … I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME." These 3 passages come from Psalm 22:22 Isaiah 8:17 (not so much) Isaiah 8:18 The author quotes three different OT passages showing that we are indeed Christ’s brethren

Hebrews 2:12-13 12 saying, " I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN … I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME." So what does it matter that we are brethren to Jesus? To honor the passing of Adam West: Same Bat-time; same Bat-channel!
