Hebrews 2:10-18 Sermon 6

Review Jesus is the exact representation of God God desires relationship with you Evil desires to “make Jesus small” Work hard against Drifting We live in the “Now but the not yet”

Hebrews 2:10-13 10 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. 11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. 12 He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; in the assembly I will sing your praises.” 13 And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again he says, “Here am I, and the children God has given me.”

Author, Perfect & Suffering Vs 10 God’s desire is humanity’s Salvation This is the heart of God (Knowing & being known) “Author” of Salvation- Original Word: ἀρχηγός, οῦ, ὁ Transliteration: archégos (ar-khay-gos') Definition: originator, author, founder, prince, leader. Pop Culture: Trailblazer or Champion Hercules was written as “ar-khay-gos‘” & as a Saviour.

PERFECT Original Word: τελειόω Transliteration: teleioó (tel-i-o'-o) Definition: (a) as a course, a race, or the like: I complete, finish (b) as of time or prediction: I accomplish, (c) I make perfect; pass: I am perfected. Jesus “Completion (teleioó) as a Human” came through his suffering” Jesus was a “Real Person” tasted life fully

Vs 11-13 11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. Key Point- Triune God isn’t ashamed of humanity Jesus calls us “Brothers & Sisters” Vs 12-13 Quotes Psalm 22:22 & Isaiah 8:17-18 both references “Reconciliation with enemies post Messiah (Heaven).

Hebrews 2:14-16 14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.

What happened on the Cross? Vs 14 “Flesh & blood” humanity is oppressed by Satan To destroy Satan Jesus had to become “Flesh & Blood” Original Word: καταργέω Part of Speech: Verb Transliteration: katargeó (kat-arg-eh'-o) Short Definition: I bring to naught, sever, abolish Definition: (a) I make idle (inactive), make of no effect, annul, abolish, bring to naught, (b) I discharge, sever, separate from.

Jesus DESTROY’S Satan 1 Corinthians 15:24 Jesus Destroys the power of the Principalities & Powers on the cross. Power of death is destroyed the FEAR OF DEATH. Satan's great weapon is FEAR of DEATH Early Church Martyrs murdered by the thousands they witnessed through death no fear of death.

Fear Of Death Mythologies “Immortality, Fountain of youth” Fear of something ending Being out of control Being uncomfortable Fear of being forgotten Physical safety

Heb 2:17-18 17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Echo of earlier Jesus became fully human & suffered, just like we do. Jesus carries out the Fathers Heart, to bring us to glory (Salvation). The cross overcame Satan Persecution was a reality Jesus is present throughout the struggle.

What Does This All Mean For Me? Jesus brings us to glory (inheritance) Union with Father Through the Son & in the Spirit This is possible because Fear has been exposed as fake & crucified on the cross We can live free from fear when we live with a everyday relationship with God Know that physical harm/death isn’t the end

We aren't in control, we can let go Suffering is apart of living, Jesus suffered We can move through suffering knowing that its “power” is minimal God has done this (Salvation, Atonement) in order to bring me to glory, meet me, know me to have relationship with me To God I am worth fighting for!

The Fall (Gen 3) left humanity insecure and full of fear of God & self doubt. Fall left us “Afraid, Naked & Hiding” The cross, death, resurrection & ascension of Jesus:DESTROYED Fear (Heb 2:14-1 Clothed us with Christ (Gal 3:26-28) We sit at the Right had of God in Christ Reality Satan is disarmed, we live knowing this is true!
