Roman Society Following the death of Caesar Rome was plunged into a series of civil wars Octavian, the grandnephew of Caesar was the survivor from this series of wars and will now be the first emperor of Rome Octavian assumes the name Augustus "the great one" Rule of Augustus will mark the beginning of Roman golden age

Emperor Augustus As emperor Augustus will rule over multiple nations from Rome Senate is left in place under new empire, multiple branches of government Augustus creates civil service to enforce laws- high level jobs left to the best people

Emperor Augustus Augustus gets support from other provinces and cities by granting them ability of self-government Census is established in Roman empire, (census= Population count) Postal service is built with new coins issued to improve trade throughout nations

Pax Romana Roman golden age will be known as Pax Romana: "Roman Peace" Prosperity, order, and unity are increased as Rome will now extend from England to Euphrates River Wealth of nation from increased trade supports Pax Romana from 27 B.C. to 180 C.E.

Pax Romana With great increases in territory Rome has great increases in trade Egyptians provided grain Africa brought ivory and gold India brought spices, cotton & precious stones China brought other goods along Silk Road

Pax Romana The mass trade in Rome was responsible because of their extensive systems of roads. "All roads lead to Rome" Roads were built with mile markers and information to highlight important cities and distance on journeys

Roman Achievements Roman architecture was greatly expanded with the invention of concrete Concrete supports were seen in roads and with domes, columns, and aqueducts The Pantheon and the Coloseum were the pinnacle of great Roman architectural achievements

Pantheon The Pantheon is the best preserved building from Ancient Rome The building was built as a temple, and was said to contain statues of great Roman leaders like Caesar and the gods The building housed a combination of columns and domes showing a blend of Greek and Roman architectural ideals. Colosseum The Colosseum was the largest theatre built in Rome, this was created as a grand showcase of sporting events for Romans to watch. Aqueducts Channels used to transport fresh water to Roman cities Connected to large water areas (Tiber River, Meditteranean Sea) Rome itself had eleven aquedcuts supporting the cities water supply Aqueducts like roads connected the nation and helped modernize the country

Roman Baths Baths were common throughout the cities of Rome to be used for cleanliness and relaxation. Roman citizens would meet at the baths to socialize and exercise The concept of baths connected Roman citizens and used heating measures with dome
