Volcanoes Volcanoes are the openings in the earths surface. When they erupt they let out ash, gas and hot magma.
Volcanoes  Volcanoes form at weak spots in the Earth’s crust.  Magma is a molten mixture of rocky substances. It forms within the Earth in the Magma.

Volcanoes and Earth Movements 3rd grade

Why do things like this happen? mt st helens eruption 1980

Tectonic plates Earth’s crust is not all connected It is made up up large pieces called “tectonic plates” these pieces float on the mantle

The plates are smashing into, pulling apart, and sliding past each other all the time

Plates sliding past each other send shock waves through the crust that we call earthquakes buildings swaying in earthquake :45-1:45

Volcanoes Sometimes, magma (molten rock) from deep in the earth shoots up through the earth’s crust When it reaches the earth’s surface, we call it lava Lava piles up and forms volcanoes

Can you model plate tectonics with cookies? 1) plates moving apart 2) plates moving together 3) plates sliding past each other

Correct models: understand this
