Theories of the Lost Colony Seventh Grade Social Studies

Theory #1 The people simply left the settlement and relocated to the Chesapeake Bay.

Theory #2 The colony was completely destroyed and the colonists were killed by a severe hurricane.

Theory #3 The entire colony was killed by a disease.

Theory #4 The colonists were killed off by the Native Americans.

Theory #5 The colonists moved inland and joined the Lumbee tribe.

Theory #6 The colonists attempted a voyage back to England, but shipwrecked.

Your Assignment After viewing the Lost Colony video and class, and conducting your own research (optional), please choose which of the Lost Colony theories you support. Next, please compose a five-paragraph essay in which you discuss why you have chosen that theory. Please be sure to discuss why you didn’t choose the other theories and reasons why you believe those theories are incorrect. Your essay should include a thesis statement, three supporting (body) paragraphs, and a conclusion. You should write a handwritten rough draft. Your final draft should be typed, and if possible, printed and submitted by the due date indicated.
