Franklin County Reentry Coalition July 7, 2016 Next Steps

Coalition Overview Grant funding approved Organizational meeting started in May 2015 Strategic Planning began in July 2015 Subcommittees formed to completed specific tasks Resource Guide created Mission and vision statement created and approved Data collected Education of the public through Reentry Summit Advisory Board created RFP for Coalition Director

Reentry Summit Approximately 170 people attended Feedback forms reported high level of satisfaction Speakers Reentry Panel Networking Breakout sessions Closing Facility Feedback is recorded and available for review All individuals requesting information contacted

Strategic Plan Action Items Four Categories Education Support Increase Capacity Advocate for Change

Strategic Plan Action Items EDUCATION Create an awareness/education plan for the county, including plans for media. Educate employers about reentry and hiring individuals with criminal backgrounds.

Strategic Plan Action Items SUPPORT Identify all existing community resources and create a Reentry Resource Guide available in print and digital formats. Identify inmate needs prior to release and craft individual release plan, providing the inmate with a resource directory and packet of materials. Offer guidance on how to connect with resources. Develop a reentry discharge planning team and/or follow up team to work with people before and after release.

Strategic Plan Action Items INCREASE CAPACITY Complete a housing inventory to ensure affordable housing is available to returning citizens and craft a comprehensive housing plan for reentry. Commit to keeping formerly incarcerated people involved in Reentry Coalition meetings and include on committee work.

Strategic Plan Action Items ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE Examine reentry processes and protocols, looking for opportunities to enhance or develop better processes and remove process barriers.

Action Plan to Task Forces Education Support Increase Capacity Advocate for Change Education Case Review Healing Communities Implementation Intercept

Task Force: Education Purpose Inform public (Employers, landlords, community service providers, & Faith Community) regarding issues of reentry to increase the knowledge of the needs of exoffenders returning to the community. Reentry Resource Guide update and review Members Individuals, organizations, and service providers Tasks Identify groups to educate on reentry issues Provide trainings or reach out to entities to personally explain reentry concerns Create comprehensive plan for disseminating this information as well as deciding how it will be presented

Task Force: Healing Communities Implementation Purpose Establish Healing Communities within the Faith Community. Members Individuals within the Faith Community or interested in this project Tasks Identify interested Churches or Faith Groups Organize trainings Oversee implementation

Task Force: Case Review Purpose To problem solve individual needs and create systemic change  Members Health service entities, such as mental health and D&A providers, service providers, such as employers, housing, and transportation, as well as representatives from the criminal justice and county government systems Tasks Review individual reentry cases through SWOT analysis (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats)

Task Force: Intercept Purpose To identify barriers and gaps in the current system  Members Representatives from each service sector in the community and extend the full spectrum of the system Tasks Follow Sequential Intercept Model to identify needs and use information to create other task forces to eliminate or improve those issues
