How technology and data can bring needed improvements to air quality and the environment Dr Dave Williams 8th November 2018
Major themes in transport Connectivity, automation and future mobility Urban air quality
A health issue A legislative issue An economic issue Long-term ambition ULEV adoption Enabling infrastructure
We have immediate problems – we need short term solutions
Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems C-ITS In many respects today's vehicles are already connected devices. However, in the very near future they will also interact directly with each other and with the road infrastructure. This interaction is the domain of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), which will allow road users and traffic managers to share and use information previously not available and to coordinate their actions. This cooperative element – enabled by digital connectivity – is expected to significantly improve road safety, traffic efficiency and comfort of driving, by helping the driver to take the right decisions and adapt to the traffic situation
What could C-ITS mean for air quality?
Technology that is available now More and better data Technology that is available now C-ITS can be used to reduce vehicle emissions Targeted interventions, immediate benefits Integration with existing systems
