Directors of Rural Affairs Creation of an European network in which rural issues can be discussed in a strategic and integral way Sharing different views about the way long term changes effect our current policies

Long term changes for rural areas Discussions: How to deal with changes from the perspective of sustainable development What is the long term perspective for rural development What changes should we anticipate? What are the processes of change?

Water Framework Directive Relation between long term changes and the current implementation of this policy Differences between member states Cooperation between member states, EC and stakeholders Balance between harmonisation and national approaches Exchange of knowledge, experience, education, joint research

Conclusions Good start for further deliberations and a vital network of directors of Rural Affairs Second meeting in Poland (UK, Poland and NL) Alliances with other networks such as Water Directors

Directors of Rural Affairs and Water Directors Support of initiative CAP and the development of rural areas and a synergetic influence on the WFD Opportunities for cooperation
