What Classes Do I have to take next year? Language Arts Math Social Studies Science Study Hall/Advisory Class 6 semesters of electives (year long class = 2 semesters of electives)

Regular Classes or Pre – Advanced Placement Classes Courses are more challenging Take more time Increased Reading load Sophisticated writing assignments and projects Summer reading project for all Pre-AP Language Arts classes

What Classes Do I have to take next year? TAKS Class Students who do not pass the reading portion of TAKS are required to take 2 semesters of Reading Improvement. Students who do not pass the math portion of the TAKS are required to take 2 semesters of Math Improvement. (You give up electives to take these electives)

Electives – Year Long Athletics Choir Band Art I Tennis or Gymnastics Art I Business Information Management Advanced Theatre Gateway to Technology Principals of Manufacturing Foreign Languages

Electives – Year Long Athletics Competitive team sports requiring time involvement outside the school day. Physical is required ($) Boys – Football, Basketball, Cross Country, and Track Girls – Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, and Track

Electives – Year Long Gymnastics/ Tennis – Competitive classes offered before 1st period at the Shannon Center for gymnastics and the Richland Tennis Center for tennis. Parents are responsible for transportation to those facilities. Bus service from the facility to campus provided by the district. Tryouts required. Physical Education – Need two semesters of PE or Athletics in the 7th grade.

Electives – Year Long Band Choir *Play self-owned or school-rented instruments *Private lessons are also offered ($) *Practice time & some extra curricular time is a requirement *Cost for performance attire Choir *Learn fundamental vocal technique and music theory *Some extracurricular time is required outside the school day for concerts *Cost for performance attire and choir shirt

This class needs approval Electives – Year Long Advanced Theatre For students who have taken theatre for one of more semesters This class needs approval from the Teacher!

Electives – Year Long One Year High School Credit *Spanish *French (High School graduation requirements: Students need a minimum of 2 years of foreign language for graduation)

Electives – Year Long One Year High School Credit Principles of Manufacturing – This Pre-engineering, activity based course is design to introduce the Technology systems of Robotics, Electronics, CNC Manufacturing, Computer Aided Design, Light & Lasers and more in a modular learning environment. Gateway to Technology - This Pre-engineering , activity based course is a separate course offering from Project Lead the Way which extends and enhances the contents of the Technology systems course and is offered at the middle schools as an introduction to the later high school courses. Need a strong math/science background. For students who are interested in technology/engineering fields.

Electives – Year Long One Year High School Credit Business Information Management I – Students will apply technical skills through word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and electronic presentation software. ART I – Offers experience in various art processes, structures, theories, and historical development.

Electives – One Semester Digital Basics *Learn how computers work and file management *Learn a variety of software including PhotoShop, Audacity, and MovieMaker *Opportunity to improve on keyboarding skills

Electives – One Semester Theatre – Students learn the mechanics of stage production and actually perform in a play.

Electives – One Semester Career Technology Education – Students learn to operate machinery. Design and construct projects. Introductory class ($) for materials Art – Introductory class for those students who have never taken Art before.

When is the registration form due back? Return your registration form back to Ms. Thompson and Mr. Davis by January 26, 2011. Students will go to the computer lab on January 27, 2011 to register for your classes.
