Today we will… Identify the ‘Big Three’ peacemakers at Versailles Explain the aims of each peacemaker

I can… Summarise the views of the ‘Big Three’ at Versailles

Germany had surrendered on 11/11/1918 The countries that were in the war needed to reach a peace agreement Leaders from 32 countries met in Versailles, near Paris in January 1919 to talk about peace

Nobody from Germany was allowed to attend The Three most important people at the conference were known as the ‘BIG THREE’ GEORGES CLEMENCEAU WOODROW WILSON DAVID LLOYD GEORGE

David Lloyd George didn’t want Germany to be treated too badly He thought this would lead to another war Most British people wanted the Germans dealt with very harshly He had to think of his people

Woodrow Wilson did not want to damage Germany too much He made up ‘fourteen points’ which he thought countries could stick to in order to make peace He also wanted to set up a ‘League of Nations’ which countries would join so that they would not go to war again

Georges Clemenceau wanted to totally destroy Germany Remember Germany and France were old enemies! He wanted Germany to lose all their power He also wanted Alsace and Lorraine back He wanted Germany to pay for all the damage they had caused

In groups, you will be given one of the ‘Big Three’ countries You are going to make a big poster which explains what your country wants You will have an information sheet which will help you You will also be given pictures to add on to your poster You can choose what you want to use!

Today we will… Identify the ‘Big Three’ peacemakers at Versailles Understand the aims of each peacemaker
