Energy Flow in Ecosystems Food chains and food webs

Scavengers Animal that consumes the carcasses of other animals.

Predation When one organism (predator) captures and feeds on another organism the (prey)

Food Chains A series of steps in which organisms transfer energy by eating and being eaten. Chain can be long or short!!!!

Food Webs Network of complex interactions formed by the feeding relationships among the various organisms in an ecosystem Food chains are in food webs!!!!

How does energy flow through an ecosystem? Energy always flows in similar ways from primary producers to various consumers.

Biomass and Energy 0.1% 1% 10% 100%

Lets all do it? Find a partner who is going to eat you. You must have a primary producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer What trophic level are you? How much energy do you have?
