Process of making a presentation Preparation and introduction Main part Closing and Questions

Preparation and Introduction Tips for a stand-up presentation Know about your audience Know about your topic Plan the content and structure Write notes on sheets of paper Prepare visual aids Rehearse your presentation

Introduction Introduce yourself and your subject. Outline what you are going to talk about. Say whether people should ask questions during the talk, or at the end.

Main Part Advice about Presentations Timing Start on time. Don’t wait for latecomers. Plan how long you’re going to spend on each point and keep to these timings. Don’t spend too long on a particular point. Don’t talk about things not related to the subject. Finish on time. Don’t run over.

Main Part Advice about Presentations Voice Project the voice to the back of room, but don’t shout. Check the volume of your voice beforehand. Use a microphone. Don’t hold it too close to your mouth. Speak in a natural tone of voice. Don’t speak on the same pitch of voice all the time.

Main Part Attract audiences’ attention Telling an anecdote. Mentioning a really surprising fact or statistics. Stating a problem. Asking a question.

Main Part & Body Language While you are presenting… Make eye contact. Don’t concentrate on just one or two people. Face the audience. Don’t peak to the equipment or the screen. Smile at appropriate moments. Don’t smile too much. Use gesture to emphasize key points. Stay more or less in one place. Don’t move around too much. Avoid Mannerisms.

Presentation Structure Practice: Put the following sentences in the right order from the introduction to a presentation. I’m going to talk about the new organization of our Asian Sales. Afterwards you can ask any questions or say what you think. Good afternoon, everyone. My presentation today is about changes in our organization. Finally I’ll describe the new arrangement – the new system. First I’ll describe the current situation – how things are now. Then I’ll explain why we have to change this. 1. c 2. a 3. e 4. f 5. d 6. b

Closing and Questions While you are about to make closing... Let me sum up. Firstly,……….., secondly, …….., and last………. In my view, ……….. That brings me to the end……. Are there any questions? I think that’s a good place to stop. Thank you for listening.

Closing and Questions While you are answering questions... That’s a fair point… ( Showing agreement) That’s confidential…( Showing rejection) Well, I think that goes beyond the scope of today’s presentation…( Showing rejection) That’s not really my field…

Review What are the types of presentation? What are the parts of a presentation?
