Autumn One: Once Upon a Story Reception Autumn Term One Overview Welcome to a brand new academic year full of inspirational experiences. The year will begin with one of our favourite stories, The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Through storytelling, the children will develop their confidence in speaking clearly and using whole sentences. They will look at feelings, friendships and experiences as they explore and innovate the story. Through story mapping, students will become familiar with the story structure and develop their own changes to the text. Communication and Language Physical Development Personal, Social and Emotional Development including RRS Crossing bridges – different ways to cross e.g. Crawl, slide, tip toe Story Telling Actions – sizes, objects, actions Storytelling Area - deep blue stream, bridges and props Expression in voices when storytelling Word choices – eat/said/bashed Exploring feelings – what makes you feel angry? Family – who do you care about? Who looks after you? Friendship – what else could the troll do? Exploring Media and Materials Exploring Materials -Which is the best to build a bridge Props for storytelling – masks, puppets, playdough models Exploring sounds – which instrument can be used for each animal (innovation) Literacy Understanding the World Retelling Actions and words Sequencing Story Boarding and sentences Shared Writing - What happens next? Capital letters, full stops, finger spaces Caption writing Non-Chronological writing – goats Other core texts: The Hungry Caterpillar Learning about goats DT – bridge building Sizes and differences Mathematics Over the year, children will explore maths around them using physical objects and by playing interactive games.
