Anton van Leeuwenhoek - 1674 Developed a single-lens microscope that was much more powerful than Hooke’s. 1674 – Leeuwenhoek became one of the first people to describe living cells when he observed numerous single-celled organisms swimming in a drop of pond water

Cell Theory All living things are made up of cells. All cells come from other living cells. Cells are the most basic unit of life. There is nothing living that is smaller than a cell.
