GCSE Geography

What can you study with Geography? Geography will develop skills and knowledge that will help you to succeed in your other subjects! The skills you develop in other subjects will help you to succeed in Geography!

The benefits of studying Geography You will develop a wide range of academic and interpersonal skills that are valuable for any A level. You will spend at least two days conducting fieldwork for your UK Issues exam. You will become a good communicator, problem solver, team player, confident user of ICT, well rounded flexible thinker and socially, economically and environmentally aware Geographers possess skills that are widely sought after and are very employable. Geography will prepare you well for a wide variety of careers, these include: Medicine, Law, Business and Commerce, Engineering, Civil Service; Conservation, Geology, Tourism and Teaching.

Edexcel Geography B Your Year 9 lessons will have given you an idea of the topics you will cover at GCSE. You will study the Edexcel B syllabus which we believe is the most engaging, relevant and well-designed specification. Global Geographical Issues UK Geographical Issues People and Environment Issues All exams include multiple-choice questions, short open response questions and the opportunity for extended writing. Paper 1: Global Geographical Issues 37 Paper 1: Global Geographical Issues 37.5%, 1 hour and 30 minutes, 94 marks This exam is divided into three sections Section A: Hazardous Earth (30 marks) Section B: Development Dynamics (30 marks + 4 SPGST) Section C: Challenges of an Urbanising World (30 marks)

Paper 2: UK Geographical Issues 37.5%, 1 hour and 30 minutes, 94 marks This exam is divided into three sections Section A Physical Geography (31 marks) Section B Human Geography (27 marks) Section C Geographical Investigations (36 marks)

Paper 3: People and Environment Issues 25%, 1 hour and 30 minutes, 64 marks This exam is divided into four sections The first three sections are worth 48 marks People and the Biosphere Forests under threat Consuming energy resources The final section will offer a choice of one from three decisions assessed through a 16 mark extended writing question
