6 STEPS TO THE WRITING PROCESS

STEP 1 Explore Ideas Topic (that interests you or fits the assignment) Purpose (inform, persuade etc.) Audience (who are they?)

STEP 2 Prewriting Listing Clustering Freewriting Journal writing

STEP 3 Organise Select (choose appropriate ideas from the brainstorming list) Outline (organise related ideas into categories)

STEP 4 Write a first draft Begin writing the first draft (doesn’t have to be perfect)

STEP 5 Revise the draft Add or omit material Rearrange ideas (content and organisation)

STEP 6 Produce a final copy Edit Proofread
