THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD A process that is used to find answers to questions about the world around us.
There are many different versions of the scientific method – some have more steps, some less, and the words used will vary. However, they all begin with the identification of a problem or a question to be answered based upon observations of the world around us, and provide an organized method for researching, hypothesizing and conducting and analyzing an experiment.
The Steps Purpose – State the problem Research – Find out about the topic; observe Hypothesis – Predict the outcome to the problem Experiment – Develop a procedure to test the hypothesis Analysis – Record the results, use charts & graphs Conclusion – Compare the hypothesis to the results; modify your hypothesis and do further experimenting. Repeat – Do it again to verify that your results are accurate
