What will a successful strategy look like? Co-produced research in line with priorities Career pathway options - supported sessions, higher degrees, part of GP training Service evaluation leading to research studies Home grown portfolio research designed and recruited to in CNE Opportunity for patients to take part across specialties and in primary care Greater alignment and awareness of primary care with all stakeholders Original aims Partners in improving local health

1. Development and design of Research in Primary Care Primary care researchers and decision makers annually share and discuss service and research priorities to align and plan future research A regular forum, the Primary Care Development Group is set up to retain primary care staff with research expertise and further degrees and nurture those staff who wish to develop their skills and research ideas Research Capability Funding aligned to Primary Care is pooled to grow primary care research and capacity aligned to service priorities and support increased North East and North Cumbria hosting and CI development 10 steps to success Partners in improving local health

3. Adoption of outcomes of Research 2. Research Delivery Expansion of Primary Care leads roles and review of GP leadership to reflect changing strategic geography AHSN to feed into GP engagement leads group Primary Care finance group Financial review of primary care research funding 3. Adoption of outcomes of Research Outputs of research are regularly and easily accessible for decision makers CRN to be more involved with dissemination of study results Original aims Partners in improving local health

Informatics Pragmatic use of present GP IT systems Further development of a regional informatics system to support feasibility and delivery of portfolio studies 5. Building capacity and capability Research as part of education of medical students and GP Trainees Support from Medical schools, SPCR, CRN and HEE Research portfolio careers for GPs 6 Patient Engagement PPIE to be seen as a priority and represented on Implementation group Primary care specific communications 7 Commercial Research Original aims Partners in improving local health
