3 QUALITY TEACHING TO IMPROVE EVERY STUDENT
Develop every student to be their personal best Engage with schools to ensure high aspirational expectations for every student to achieve their personal best and have a positive learning mindset Enable best practice learning Support teaching that empowers students in shaping their own learning and self- assessment, by providing flexible curricula, tools, processes, and feedback Strengthen support for student wellbeing 3. Provide teachers and school leaders with data, information, insight and quality professional learning to enhance their capability to influence student wellbeing 4. Provide easier access and more responsive support to help schools deal with more complex student needs Accelerate outcomes for Aboriginal students 5. Ensure that the educational needs of Aboriginal students and communities are reflected in all that we do, to support their success Enhance teacher professional learning 6. Increase rigour of professional learning design, with a common set of high-quality courses incorporating adult-learning principles, and delivery, shifting away from compliance training towards innovation, classroom practice and improving student outcomes © NSW Department of Education | Building the Future Workshop 3 30 November 2018

4 ENHANCED SCHOOL LEADERSHIP
Strengthen leadership roles and relationships 7. Ensure consistency and quality of educational leadership from the “middle layer” to support principals in continuous school improvement Provide quality leadership development and support 8. Establish our own Leadership Institute and principal scholarships for broader principal learning and development, including instructional leadership, strategic planning, financial management, and community engagement Grow system-wide leadership capability by enhanced induction, mentoring, and coaching-based performance management at all levels © NSW Department of Education | Building the Future Workshop 3 30 November 2018

5 TAILORED SUPPORT TO IMPROVE EVERY SCHOOL
Tailor needs- based support to improve every school 10. Build on the School Excellence Framework and school plan to design strategies to support schools in their performance improvement journey 11. 6 INCREASED RESOURCES TO IMPROVE PRACTICE
Increase resources to enable staff to focus more time on students Provide an interactive catalogue to improve visibility and share user ratings about professional learning courses and support resources available from the department and other providers Free up professional time by providing increased support resources for principals Adopt a user-needs-centred approach to streamline workflow tools, systems, processes and applications integrated with school operations © NSW Department of Education | Building the Future Workshop 3 30 November 2018

7 GREATER COLLABORATION TO INNOVATE
Grow capacity for collaboration to innovate 15. Clearly define “who does what” by role descriptions articulating responsibilities, expected outcomes and success measures across central, field and school staff Shift behaviours and mindsets from consultation to collaboration, innovating for problem-solving and continuous improvement Identify, share and adopt best practices 17. Identify local, state, national and international innovations in instruction, school operations and high performing teams 18. Expand and sustain technology-enabled networks of schools beyond local geographies to share expertise between schools with similar challenges or common development interests and to form communities of practice   © NSW Department of Education | Building the Future Workshop 3 30 November 2018
