Hurricanes  

Hurricanes are storms that start over the warm ocean Hurricanes are storms that start over the warm ocean. Hurricanes make big winds, big waves, and a lot of rain.  

Hurricanes can be dangerous. They can blow down homes Hurricanes can be dangerous! They can blow down homes. They can blow down trees. The big waves and rain can cause floods. A flood happens when too much water is on the land.  

If a big hurricane is coming, people must leave their homes If a big hurricane is coming, people must leave their homes. Leaving your home, because a storm is coming is called evacuating. It is not safe to stay in the path of a hurricane.  

In Asia, hurricanes are called typhoons In Asia, hurricanes are called typhoons. A typhoon is the same as a hurricane.
