2 The Difference Between Weather and Climate
Climate is the kind of weather a place has over a period of years. Weather is what the air happens to be from day to day.

3 Tropical Climate Zone Very hot and humid
Water evaporates during day, cools, then rains daily sun hits directly above all Plant grow easily

4 Temperate Climate Zone
Most people live here North America, Asia, Europe. 4 seasons Plants and animals adapt to the weather

5 Desert Climate Zone 10 inches of rain or less Not as many plants
Animals have adaptations to save water and stay cool

6 Polar climate zone Sun hits at an angle Ground never warms Always cold
White, snowy Summer only 9 degrees Fahrenheit

7 Cumulus Clouds Large piles of white clouds during fair weather
Cumulus goes to 10,000 feet in the sky Can billow high in the sky

8 Cumulonimbus Clouds Tall and fluffy Brings rain and lightning
Storm lasts under an hour Nickname “dark tower clouds”

9 Stratus Clouds Gloomy skies No storm Spread out Thick low clouds
Covers the sky

10 Stratonimbus Clouds Super dark Spread out Brings rain
Storm lasts all day

11 In times in heavy floods
In times of heavy rain, rivers can over flow their banks and make floods Floods can cause deaths of people and animals Floods can cause a lot of damage

12 Tornadoes Funnels of strong wind Start in flat ground
Wind flows in circles to make it a tornado Nickname “twister” Wind can reach 400 kilometers per hour

13 Hurricanes Hurricanes start in the ocean when warm water is being absorbed by the clouds. Hurricanes bring strong winds and rain. Tall waves crash against the coast. Clouds grow large. When the clouds are too full and black, they dump the water on the land.

14 Blizzards A blizzard is a fierce snow storm with strong winds.
The temperature is very cold - even down to -4 degrees F. A whiteout happens during a blizzard when all you can see is snow.
