Tenant Safety Team Guidelines 69 West Washington Tenant Safety Team Guidelines

These tenant guidelines for 69 W These tenant guidelines for 69 W. Washington have been designed to assist tenants during an emergency situation. Tenants are requested to familiarize themselves with both the building and department emergency plans. The material in this presentation are basic guidelines only. Each emergency is different and will require in the field decisions’ that cannot be predicted in this presentation. Nothing in this presentation is to be construed as all inclusive. Material utilized in this presentation has been provided by the Chicago Fire Department in best practices.

Tenant Safety Team Goals Life Safety Take Charge, provide a quick, organized response during emergencies Educate co-workers Notify building staff of dangers in your area Listen to instructions via PA, tell others where to go

Tenant Safety Team Positions Floor Warden/Assistant Floor Warden Floor Leader Searcher(s) Stairwell Monitor(s) Elevator Monitor Handicapped Aide(s)

1. Floor Warden/Assistant Floor Warden Appoints personnel to the team Maintains an updated roster Alerts team of potential danger Supervises the activity and training of team members Pre-plans assistance of disabled personnel Verbally responsible for the evacuation of floor personnel Notifies safety team when to leave

2. Floor Leader Supervises assembly of personnel in work area Responsible for orderly evacuation via designated exits Must take command of area with verbal instructions Maintain noise levels in your area Remains with the group throughout the relocation/evacuation Assists in training of personnel in their work area – go to - 69 W. Emergency Procedures

3. Searchers Checks all rooms in assigned area. Closes but does not locking all doors Insists all remaining personnel exit the area Verbally instruct everyone to evacuate quietly Evacuates non-employees found on floor Reports to Floor Leader when their area is clear

4. Stairwell Monitor Positions themselves at designated exits. Inspects stairwell for possible heat or smoke before directing individuals Verbally instructs personnel to form single file line on right side of stairwell Verbally instruct where to go, calm and quiet in the stairwell Reminds personnel not to take items such as coffee mugs or luggage into the stairwell

5. Elevator Monitor Verbally directs personnel to the nearest stairwell Must be familiar with building evacuation plan and stairwell locations Stays at their post until instructed to evacuate by Floor Warden

6. Handicap Aid Maintains up-to-date list of physically challenged employees on floor Assists ADA employees and guests to the area of rescue (S.E. Stairwell) When the stairwell is clear, or the area of rescue is compromised, move ADA personnel into the stairwell landing Listen to instructions

Co-Workers Responsibilities Know each Safety Team member’s roles Listen to building announcements Follow the instructions of the Safety Team Maintain quiet during evacuation and drills

Fire Response If you SEE smoke or flame call 911 Locate Fire Extinguisher, Remember P.A.S.S Video Link We have A,B,C extinguishers only Listen to building announcements Relocate to your assigned areas Be VERBAL, as necessary, but calm. People are looking to you to lead Communicate any issues you see to building management Stay together with your staff / co-workers

Weather Response Identify your departments shelter in place location(s) Make sure everyone is aware of where to go Listen to building announcements Be VERBAL, as necessary, but calm Remind everyone to stay in place until the all clear is given over the announcements

Safety Tips for Staff / Co-workers Call 911. DO NOT use vanity addresses Notify security. Know locations and use of fire extinguishers P.A.S.S. Don’t walk away from food being prepared Prohibited items – toasters, coffee pots, space heaters, holiday decorations after hours Close all doors behind you

FAQ Should we use safety vests and caps? Should Searchers mark each door with a sticky note? What if there are more ADA personnel then Aids? What if there is no location in my office to shelter?
