European Exploration France and England

Northwest Passage An all water route to Asia going North of North America. English and French explorers were searching for it. They never found it!

After failing to do so, Champlain founded the French colony of Quebec The French explorer Samuel de Champlain searched Canada for a northwest passage to Asia

Jacques Cartier Sailed for France Was looking for the Northwest Passage Was the 1st explorer to explore the St Lawrence Seaway and claimed it for France

John Cabot Sailed for England Accomplishments: 1. Looked for the Northwest Passage and never found it 2. Claimed Canada for England

Henry Hudson Sailed for England 1. Accomplishments: Looking for the Northwest passage (never found it) 2. Discovered Hudson Bay
