Our Mission River Oaks Elementary School develops extraordinary learners through a program of differentiated, rigorous inquiry so that they may innovate and collaborate in a global society. The International Baccalaureate Primary years Programme provides our framework for the development of internationally-minded learners that embody the ten attributes of the IB learner profile: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.

Our Core Beliefs All learners have the right to develop their gifts and talents. All learners benefit from project-based learning that fosters creativity and innovation. All learners deserve enrichment opportunities that stimulate intellectual, physical, and creative growth. All stakeholders (learners, staff, parents, and community members) play a vital role in the success of our school and thrive in a culture of mutual respect. Our Core Beliefs

SIP INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS Goal Area 1: Student Achievement – Reading/Mathematics/Attendance During the 2018-19 school year, the percentage of all K-5 students reading at or above grade level will increase by 3% as measured by the EOY Universal Screener.   During the 2018-19 school year, 80% of 3-5th graders will make the Think 30 club, as determined by Think Through Math learning resource.

SIP BUDGETARY IMPACT Goal Area 1 Cont.: In the 2018-19 school year, average daily attendance will increase from 97.6% to 98% (by .4%) as measured by ADA documentation. Goal Area 3: Special Populations- Gifted and Talented The number of GT zoned students will increase by 10% in kindergarten (from 50% to 60%).

PD Focus for 2018 Reader’s/Writer’s Workshop Everyday Mathematics Inquiry, Action and Philanthropy Differentiated Instruction with an emphasis on Inclusion and Dyslexia Intervention Gifted Education Plan for 425 Students

Looking Ahead Trends indicate ROE will continue to increase in zoned enrollment, and decrease in magnet enrollment. Trends indicate the ROE population will decline in the number of white students, and increase in minority populations following the trends of Houston, TX (based on Dr. Klineberg’s demographic study of Houston 30+ years) Curriculum changes may occur based on best practice and research such as meeting the needs of students who are dyslexic and limited English Proficient as these populations continue to increase over time. Budgeting for the future is significantly important as recapture decreases funding for ROE. Staff may be impacted over time with a reduction in some course offerings such as technology and science lab.
