A Rising tide lifts all boats Tides

TIDES- are motions of the oceans caused by gravitational attraction between the earth & moon. What about the sun ?

HIGH TIDE- is the area of the bulge LOW TIDE- area between the bulges

Due to the motion of the moon and earth system, tides generally occur about 1 hour later each day.

TIDAL RANGE- difference between high tide and low tide video video 2

SPRING TIDE- when sun, moon, and earth align, high tides are at their highest and low tides are at their lowest, large tidal range (full moon and new moon)

NEAP TIDE- minimum tides; when the sun, moon, and earth form a right angle. The gravitational forces are working against each other. High tides are lower and low tides are higher, low tidal range (1st and 3rd quarters)
