Daily Objectives Identify and Interpret the importance of secondary characters in the epic poem Beowulf Identify key components of the grad speech by referencing the rubric used by the Review Board

Essential Questions Who are some of the secondary characters present in the epic of Beowulf, and what purpose do they serve in the tale? How can you successfully define the purpose of your grad speech, and support it with relevant, engaging information in order to present yourself as an expert on your topic?

Warm Up Take out your copies of Beowulf In the text, find and highlight references to the following characters: Welthow Esher Unferth Wulfgar For each reference you identify, annotate your thoughts on what that character or their actions adds to your understanding

Grad Speech Rubric F.A.Q. Access the graduation speech rubric on Canvas, and review each component What questions do you have about the definitions or expectations given to the Review Board based on the rubric?

Speech Review Partner Up Access your grad speech materials – outlines, notes, drafts, etc. Trade your materials with your partner – you will review their speech and vice versa Using your copy of the rubric, review the “Content & Coherence” section. Answer the following questions about YOUR PARTNERS speech based on the information you were provided:

Is the supporting information authoritative, relevant, and current? Do any visuals assist in my understanding of the information? Does the information presented convey expert knowledge on the topic? As you go, note any questions or potential deficiencies you observe for your partner – they will use this feedback to improve!
