A Healthy Lifestyle

Topics Physical Activities Healthy Eating Sickness/Diseases Benefits of Healthy Eating What to Avoid

Physical Activities How long should someone do physical activity for? At least one hour each day That doesn’t necessarily mean doing a sport, but walking, jogging, and running are other physical activities. Example: Instead of playing fifa (soccer video game) → go play soccer outside with friends or practice on your own. Example: Instead of using elevators → use the stairs.

Healthy Eating What should we incorporate in our meals everyday to have a balanced diet? Food Pyramid

How much should one eat? Eat Small Amounts/Portions Having smaller portions on your plate allows your brain to indicate to your stomach when it’s full and therefore doesn’t force it to eat more. But if you serve yourself large amounts of food, your are more likely to finish everything even when you are full already. Forcing oneself to eat a lot can provoke nausea, vomiting, stomachaches, sometimes it makes it harder to sleep and be physically active Know what hungry feels like, it’s not always that you’re hungry but you’re just craving food and forcing your stomach to eat when it’s not hungry → creating a false appetite. When you’re eating a meal, one should stop when they are satisfied and not full.

Are Snacks Good or Bad? They are good depending on the snack. Unhealthy Snacks: High in sugar/saturated fats: chips, sweets (cakes, cookies, etc.) Healthy Snacks: Unsaturated fats: fruits, vegetables, reduced fat dairy products, and whole grains. Saturated fats: NOT Healthy Unsaturated fats: Healthy * Moderate amounts

Drinking Water One should drink about 8 eight-ounce glasses of water each day/1 Liter Our body is made up of about 60% of water, therefore consuming water is a requirement: It’s proven that one can survive without food as long as water is consumed→ Body needs hydration Drinking more water promotes a better physical appearance and body functions: Provides energy Flushes out toxins Hydrates cells that help us function Boosts immune system→ prevents you from getting sick Helps digest food→ breaks down food Prevents headaches, cramps (muscle cramps), and sprains Regulates body temperature Skin/Hair/Nails = healthier
