Quick help for fault location and reliable detection of defects

Sensor The Sensor of the Insulation Fault Locator SICO 3017 ISKO can be used either with the supplied Generator or with an audio frequency track circuit.

Generator The Generator supplies the test signal which is tracked by the Sensor. It is not needed when using the operating signals of active track circuits.

Roller Guide The Roller guide is applied at the Sensor’s bottom end with a countersunk screw. It is excellent to be used on rails which are even with the ground (i.e. tramways).

Application The Insulation Fault Locator SICO 3017 ISKO is a useful device in the field of control and safety technology which indicates faults acoustically. It is the perfect device to locate all required connections, e.g. when installing track circuits or trap circuits, when locating faults.   Faults regarding line breaks, short circuits and transition resistances can be located in the following areas: Rails and sleepers, Insulated points, Insulated joints, Impedance bond transformers, S-connectors, Balancing connections, Electric power supply and output on track circuits, Heating insulation, Earth cables, and Jump cables. It locates inch by inch defective insulations and faulty contacts in tracks. It is even possible to detect faults on hidden parts of plants, e. g.: Track rods under the pavement, Track rods and shunting bonds under pavement, asphalt or concrete, Loop detection equipment (track loops).

Testing of Leakages between Both Rails Testing the sleeper insulation of a rail and detecting leakages between both rails

Testing an Insulated Rail Joint after Installation before connecting an impedance bond or other cables

Testing Insulated Joints with Connected Impedance Bond Transformer Testing insulated joints with impedance bond transformers (operating condition), basic principle

Testing a Fished-joint Cable

Testing a Short Insulated Rail

Example for Testing a Point Insulation Single rail insulated point

Power Supply Sensor: 2 batteries / rechargeable batteries, size AA (R6, Mignon) Generator: 4 batteries / rechargeable batteries, size AA (R6, Mignon)   Under voltage detection An insufficient battery capacity in Sensor or Generator is indicated. The user receives a visual indication. Automatic shutdown mode In case the Sensor is switched on unintentionally or is not in use it shuts down automatically after 5 minutes. But it only shuts down in case there is no evaluable test signal. The Generator shuts down automatically as soon as it is removed from the rail or after 15 minutes.

Technical Data Maximum distance for fault finding with Generator 250 m ... 400 m Indication numerical and acoustic Operating time Sensor ≥ 5 hours (20°C, 1.5 V, 1500 mAh) Operating time Generator ≥ 2 hours (20°C, 1.5 V, 1500 mAh) Operating frequency range Sensor 0.1 kHz … 120.0 kHz Operating frequency Generator 102.4 kHz ± 2 kHz Power supply Sensor 2 batteries / rechargeable batteries, size AA Power supply Generator 4 batteries / rechargeable batteries, size AA Operating temperature range -20°C ... +55°C Protection degree IP42 Weight Sensor with batteries approx. 600 g Weight Generator with batteries approx. 1200 g Transport length / Operating length Sensor 57 / 100 cm Buttons Membrane keyboard, 3 buttons Dimension Transport bag 61 x 14 x 10 cm
