4 Standard IEC 62271-202: an international influence
> Introduction Standard IEC : an international influence Biosco conforms to IEC international standard IEC standard applies to most of prefabricated substations world-wide. UL IEC

5 > Introduction Introduction IEC standard specifies the rated characteristics, the design and construction rules and the test methods applicable to prefabricated substations. A prefabricated substation is defined as a type-tested assembly comprising an enclosure that includes: Transformer LV switchboard MV switchboard MV and LV interconnections Auxiliary equipment

6 > Introduction Introduction These substations are located in places accessible to the general public. Consequently, safety of persons must be guaranteed Conformity to the IEC standard guarantees: Protection of the general public Protection of operators

7 Contents Introduction Type-tested substations The type tests
A specification tool Conclusion

8 Type-tested equipment
> Type-tested substations Type-tested equipment All substation components must conform to IEC standards and in particular: Transformers: IEC or MV switchboard: IEC or LV switchboard: IEC and IEC

9 The prefabricated substation undergoes type tests
> Type-tested substations > Type-tested substations The prefabricated substation undergoes type tests Use of equipment conform to IEC standards Mechanical resistance of the enclosure Functional tests Sound level Degree of protection Insulation level Internal arcing withstand Electromagnetic compatibility Temperature class MV Non flammable materials LV Earthing circuit test Oil retention

10 The 4 designs of the Biosco range conform to IEC 62271-202 standard
> Type-tested substations The 4 designs of the Biosco range conform to IEC standard Biosco W: Substation with corridor Operation protected from bad weather conditions Biosco N: Substation with external operation Ground space savings Biosco H: Half-buried substation Visual impact limited Biosco U: Underground substation Blends completely into the environment Biosco U Biosco N Biosco H Biosco W

12 The type tests 1. Dielectric tests 2. Temperature rise tests
3. Main circuit and earthing tests 4. Functional tests 5. Degree of protection verification tests 6. Mechanical tests 7. Arcing due to an internal fault tests 8. Sound verification tests 9. Electromagnetic compatibility tests

13 Dielectric tests Aim of test
> The type tests Dielectric tests Aim of test To guarantee insulation of HV and LV interconnections Our performance The HV and LV interconnections of the Biosco range are tested as per standards IEC and 60439 Example for 24 kV switchgear: Withstand to voltage of 50 kV at power frequency for 1 min Withstand to lightning impact voltage tests for a 1.2 µs wave and a voltage of 125 kV

14 Temperature rise tests
> The type tests Temperature rise tests Aim of test To determine the enclosure class To guarantee that none of the substation components will overshoot its standard-defined limits To guarantee temperature on the parts of the enclosure likely to be touched during operation To guarantee lifetime of insulating devices and thus safety of equipment during the period of operation Our performance The Biosco substation enclosures are class 10 as standard This performance can be adapted to your needs according to ambient temperatures, degrees of protection or transformer losses Numerical modelling and thermal simulations are performed. The substation is characterised by the enclosure class This is the difference between temperature rise of the transformer in the enclosure and temperature rise of this same transformer outside the enclosure in normal conditions. The different standardised classes are: Class 5 ; class 10: class 15 ; class 20: class 25 ; class 30

15 Main circuit and earthing tests
> The type tests Main circuit and earthing tests Aim of test: To guarantee the capacity to withstand short-circuit currents Our performance The Biosco substations are tested up to 12 kA

16 Functional tests Aim of tests
> The type tests Functional tests Aim of tests To guarantee that it is possible to carry out all the operations required for commissioning, operation and maintenance Our performance The Biosco substations undergo a series of verifications Switchgear operation Mechanical operation of substation doors Reading transformer temperatures and oil levels Monitoring voltage readings Installation of earthing devices Cable tests Replacement of fuses and monitoring of locking systems Operating the transformer on-load tap changer Cleaning the ventilation grids Monitoring the locking systems

17 Degree of protection verification test
> The type tests Degree of protection verification test Aim of test To ensure the protection of people against access to hazardous parts To guarantee the protection of equipment against ingress of foreign solid objects and water. Our performance The degree of protection of the Biosco substations is between IP23 and IP54 This performance can be adapted to your needs: stipulations of standards and climatic requirements.

18 Mechanical tests Aim of test
> The type tests Mechanical tests Aim of test To guarantee withstand of roof in event of overload: people, snow, etc. To guarantee the resistance of substation to wind pressure and to mechanical impacts on walls, covers, doors, ventilation opening. Our performance Roof withstand greater than 250 daN/m² IK10 (including doors and ventilation grids)

19 Arc due to an internal fault test
> The type tests Arc due to an internal fault test Aim of test To guarantee the protection of operators and the general public. The standard defines a classification: Class A: operator protection Class B: general public protection Class AB: operator and general public protection Our performance Koolarc system (cools and reduces pressure of arc gases) Classification for all substation types Example Biosco N India IAC-AB-20kA-1s Pressure and temperature simulation Film1: failed test (red camera); film 2: successful test ( blue camera);

20 Sound verification test
> The type tests Sound verification test Aim of test To ensure that the substation enclosure does not increase the transformer noise level. Our performance The Biosco substations conform to the requirements of the IEC standard

21 Electromagnetic compatibility test
> The type tests Electromagnetic compatibility test Aim of test To satisfy emission requirements laid down by international standards To guarantee the proper operation of equipment in an environment comprising large electromagnetic disturbance sources Our performance HV and LV switchgear comply with the specifications of standards IEC and Electromagnetic fields are simulated.

23 > A specification tool
Standard IEC tells users which information should be supplied for invitations to tender and orders. Network specificities Nominal and highest voltages Frequencies Neutral earthing mode Operating conditions Minimum and maximum temperatures Altitudes… The specificities and electrical characteristics of prefabricated substations Voltage, power, frequency…

24 > A specification tool
The information required for specifications is summarised in table form. All the electrical utility has to do is complete this information.

25 Contents Introduction Type-tested substations The type tests

26 Conclusion Type-tested MV, LV equipment and transformer
A series of type tests to guarantee safety and reliability of the prefabricated substation throughout its life cycle.
