Earth Science Turn in “Locating an Earthquake” activity from Friday!

Faults

Fault- surface along which rocks break and slide past one another

Hanging wall-block above the fault plane Foot wall- block below the fault plane

Fault Types Normal faults- occur at divergent boundaries Reverse faults- occur at convergent boundaries Strike-slip – occur at transform plate boundaries

Forces Tension- the force (stress) that occurs when forces act to stretch an object.

Forces Compression – the type of stress that occurs when an object is squeezed, such as when 2 tectonic plates collide.

Forces Shearing – forces one part of a body in one direction, and another part of the body in the opposite direction, causes a material to twist
