3 Fault- the surface along which rocks break and slide past one another.

4 Fault Types Normal faults- occur at divergent boundaries
Reverse faults- occur at convergent boundaries Strike-slip – occur at transform plate boundaries Fault Types

5 Forces Tension- the force (stress) that occurs when forces act to stretch an object.

6 Forces Compression – the type of stress that occurs when an object is squeezed, such as when 2 tectonic plates collide.

7 Forces Shearing – causes a material to twist

8 Folding- the bending of rock layers due to stress
Two main types of folds: Anticlines- upward arching folds Synclines- downward troughlike folds
