I am Alex Eaton, co-founder of Sistema Biobolsa I am Alex Eaton, co-founder of Sistema Biobolsa. We manufacture and distribute our patented prefabricated biodigester products, and we have been to serving agricultural markets in Mexico and Latin America for five years, and have been pioneers in the biogas space for ten years. Our mission is to improve the economic viability and wellbeing of small farmers by converting their of waste into resources.

Our Vision is one of transformation Our Vision is one of transformation. Our technology transforms animal manure to clean energy and organic fertilizer. We drive economic and environmental gains for some of the world’s most marginalized populations by changing the way they value the resources around them.

Our primary offering is our patented anaerobic digester Our primary offering is our patented anaerobic digester. We developed Biobolsa as a response to traditional biodigesters that use labor intensive brick and concrete domes that require a month to install.   Our innovation is creating a biodigesters that is a prefabricated, high quality durable good that can be easily deployed and installed, a massive technological leap forward from traditional biogas designs. We pair our line of reactors is with a full line of gas use products such as generators, stoves and boilers. What completes our offering is a comprehensive training and outreach program to allow farmers to improve their yields through the use of the high quality organic fertilizer and maximize the benefits from the gas.

What this looks like on the ground is an advanced technology supporting sustainable farming practices, and families that are able to create the time and economic space to make additional investments in their own future.

Our clients are small farmers, a group we see as vital stewards of the land and the economic engine for rural economies. Globally this is a massive group. Nearly 2 billion people on some 400 million rural farms have a need for energy and fertilizers, and also have plenty of organic waste. 1% of those, around 4 million small and medium farms, are in Mexico and Central America where our biogas revolution was launched, and where over 7,000 people with direct benefits from Biobolsa everyday. We measure that impact in direct ROI for the farmer, a value that helps us evaluate market demand, customer satisfaction and a number of other social and environmental impacts.

The economic driver of our model is the high gross margin sale of the Sistema Biobolsa product line, where we have been able to establish and maintain a 60% gross margin from our own custom factory.   We then package a full distributer product of marketing and outreach that captures the power of legend and story telling to create a deep connection with our clients and helps drive adoption. We help drive sales by creating financial packages that leverage the buying power of small farmers with micro-finance and development funding. We teamed up with KIVA as one of their first non-MFI partners and created a loan product that allows the farmers to use the benefits of the technology to pay off the loan. Average farms have 1 – 2 year payback rates. This is an extremely good investment for a small farmer, and the long term upside is huge as the technology will last more than 10 years, adding 10-20% to their annual cash flow. We manage all this with a data platform that allows us to track our clients and impacts.

We are looking for partnerships that will allow us to continue to change the way the world looks at waste.
