Welcome to 2nd Grade 2015-2016

Mrs. Rosetta’s Class Welcome to I am excited about starting my 18th year of teaching with you.

Reading Weekly Handout on Monday of all skills that will be covered. Daily Fluency Practice - homework Vocabulary – Test on Thursday. Words and definitions on the Monday handout. 5 Stories in each Unit. Unit Review and Unit Test on the 6th week. Weekly test on Friday over skills

Accelerated Reader Take the STAR Test to determine reading level Read the book 3 times aloud & then take test on the computer Reading the book practices fluency Taking the test practices comprehension Prizes are awarded for reaching your goal! See Planner for more details.

Language Arts Language Test each Thursday – the skill for the week will be on the Weekly Handout. Writing –We will be doing various writing assignments each week in class.

We will be practicing proper spacing, capital letters, proper formation of printed letters, and sentence writing. Please encourage your child to write neatly and correctly at all times After Christmas, we will begin Cursive.

Mon – write the words in planner at school Mon – write the words in planner at school. Write the words 2 times at home Tues – write 8 sentences with 8 SP words, or write a story using 8 words. Wed – Write your words in ABC order, or write the list using one color for vowels and another color for consonants. Thurs – Take a Pretest. Write missed words 5X. Fri – Test

Math Know + and – facts fluently, Practice Math Facts Daily! Math Tests will be announced in Planner Homework will be given for additional practice of skills covered in class

Homework Reading Fluency daily. Practice math facts daily. Spelling homework daily. Spelling & Fluency homework due on Friday. Math homework when assigned

Money All money sent to school should be in an envelope marked with Child’s name and purpose for money. Julie – Field Trip money Snack – only send $.50 or $1.00 daily. All snack items are $.50 each.

Grades Graded Papers will be sent home on Tuesday. Please go over papers, sign folder, and return papers and folder the following day. Grading scale is listed in Planner. Grades will be given in Reading, Math, and Language/Spelling.

Planner Be sure to check the planner and sign it nightly. Assignments, announcements, and notes will be written in planner daily. Behavior will be recorded with a happy or sad face. Notes will be written about behavior as needed.

Class Rules Be…… Respectful, Responsible, Resourceful   Do your best at all times. Follow Directions Finish all work on time and turn it in. Participate Be seated and pay attention. Raise your hand to speak – wait to be called upon. Treat others as you want to be treated Keep all objects, hands, and feet to yourself. Work quietly Use honest and kind language.  

Consequences 1st Warning 2nd Student Conference, loss of Class Dojo Points 3rd Write broken rule – Parent may be called, loss of Class Dojo Points 4th Parent Conference, write broken rule, loss of Class Dojo points, loss of activity time 5th Student sent to the office   Students may be moved to a quiet work area if they are unable to cooperate or work quietly. *SEVERE DISCRUPTIONS: IMMEDIATELY SENT TO THE PRINCIPAL!!!

Be sure to sign up for Class Dojo Be sure to sign up for Class Dojo. It is a great app that allows us to communicate all year. Students will earn points for the great things they do in class and will be rewarded for their hard work! You can check to see how they are doing during the day! I will post announcements, homework sheets, photos and more!

Morning Drop Off You may walk your child to class for the first 2 weeks of school. Please park in the parking lot. Please do not block the bus lane. After the first 2 weeks, all parents should use the car line when dropping off students. Thank you!
