Highlighting

Why are they so bad? Low challenge. Little thinking required. Makes you think that you are ‘doing something’

Top 5 techniques From: https://classteaching.wordpress.com/2015/01/29/supporting-learning-through-effective-revision-techniques/

1. Practice Testing Use flash cards Ask friends and relatives to test you Work through past papers Create quizzes

2. Distributed Practice Space out your revision Revisit learned facts regularly By The original uploader was Icez at English Wikipedia - Originally from en.wikipedia; description page is/was here., Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=2214107

3. Elaborate Interrogation Ask WHY something is true. E.g. why does the area of a circle have an 𝑟 2

4. Self Explanation Create mind-maps Not to revise from later but to build links, the process of imaginative creation is key Be creative

5. Interleaved Practice Revise small chunks of topics and mix them together

Time Management

Controllable Study Factors Make a list of all the things that can stop you studying. e.g. tiredness, sickness, tv, facebook, sporting activities etc. Then split them into two categories, those that you control and those you find hard to control. e.g. Facebook – can control, how? hide your phone. Think about all those things you can control and how can you control them; Will you allow your grades to suffer because you spent too much time chatting on-line?
