I winder how many of us have been guilty of relying on the low-impact strategies…and I wonder how much better we could have achieved had we undertaken the high-impact strategies?! I’ll give you a little time to peruse…the high-impact strategies are; self-testing (past papers) Distributed Practice (spread the revision out – timetable – work place)

3 Why Past Papers are the Best Way to Revise
Practice your timing. Familiarise yourself with the structure of papers. React and Amend. CWL Pwynt 1 - Time management is perhaps the most important skill when it comes to sitting exams. Pwynt 2 - Learn the patterns. No matter what subject you are studying, this year’s exam will share certain patterns and probably appear in a similar format to that of last year’s paper. Pwynt 3 - Keep a note of what topics you can answer questions on easily and which present more of a challenge. You should then alter your revision plan around this information: you’ll get much more value from your time if you focus on your weaknesses rather than going over your strengths again

4 Why Past Papers are the Best Way to Revise
Perhaps the most demanding part of actually sitting an exam is dealing with the stress of the day. If you’re filling in a past paper, it’s worth assessing how well you did with the mark scheme provided. HR Pwynt 1 - You need to be mentally prepared to finish the paper in one sitting and with no access to your notes. The best way to recreate this is to make your revision process as close to the actual exam as you can. Pwynt 2 - This will show you what sort of answers and technique your markers will be looking for when they go through your paper.

5 Using the Examination Boards’ websites in order to aid revision
LJ In my opinion the resource that will have the most impact is the “Access Question Bank” on the WJEC / CBAC website

6 Click on ‘Question Bank’ at the bottom of the home page.
LJ

7 Click on the blue ‘Access Question Bank’.
LJ

8 Search options for subject, qualification and key word.

11 BBC Bitesize Videos – mind maps
CWL – Mind maps - a fabulous method of revising ( Falle bydd o ddim yn gweithio oherwydd yr internet) It isn’t working tonight due to upgrading issues but the link will be in the presentation on the website tonight.

12 BBC Bitesize Videos – the role of parents
HR – The Role of Parents – so important that you are supportive and helpful ( Falle bydd o ddim yn gweithio oherwydd yr internet)

13 BBC Bitesize GE - You can now personalise this revision tool by adding your favourites and find your last viewed pages etc.

14 GE – All the subjects are there and they provide resources such as;
Tests Visual clips Infographs Essay preparation

15 GE – so for example here is a section of the English Language page and you can see sample questions, information regarding topics, characters, setting, etc

16 The Juan Sheet Challenge
Fill one sheet of A3 paper with notes regarding a unit of work using notes, internet, school book. Bullet points. Complete in 20 minutes. Study for 5 minutes. Turn page over and replicate - without support this time. SWB – an excellent revision strategy named after the character in the Kitchen Roll television advert! Fill an A3 paper with everything you know about “Christianity” for example. Use notes, internet and school resources to compile the information. Use bullet points and complete the task in 20 mins. Study for 5 mins and then turn the paper and replicate – without support this time.

17 Pomodoro technique SWB – another effective technique. This is based on the cooking timers that resemble a tomato. It’s based on 25 minute sessions and then breaks and the emphasis is on recording progress.

18 Google Classroom SHJ – all classes have a virtual classroom and work completed in class is reinforced and tasks set in the virtual classroom. Updates are given to remind pupils of deadlines and reading material uploaded for students to read before lessons.

19 Google Classroom SHJ – The Maths department amongst others have given their students access to a Google Drive – a supply of past papers and resources

20 Google Classroom SHJ – The Team Drive lets pupils access the information from any device

21 Google Classroom SHJ

22 CWL

23 CWL – No1 is very important!

24 SWB

25 British people spend NINE HOURS a day (that's 30 YEARS of our lives) staring at screens...and more time online than ANY other nation in the world EB – Take their phones away for the revision session
