Who are the Dakota people? What do you know about them?

Dakota Key Terms Page 25 Oral Tradition: a custom of telling stories about histories and legends of a group in order to teach about that group. Elder: an older member of the tribe who is respected for his or her wisdom or knowledge. Tipi/teepee: a cone shaped house made by stretching animal skins over a frame of wooden poles. Sugar camp: village that the Dakotas lived in during Spring when they made sugar from maple sap. It’s a place where they grew the maple trees. Bark house: a rectangular shaped house made of poles and covered with large overlapping strips of bark. Ohanwaste: the Dakota word meaning generosity Tiyospaye: Dakota word meaning extended families including cousins, aunts, and uncles. wohoda: Dakota word meaning respect and courtesy. What happens to the Dakota in the Spring time? What food do they eat? Where do they live?
