Lost in the Toy Museum – David Lucas SCIENCE AND COMPUTING HUMANITIES (History, Geography, RE, MFL) PE AND PSHE Science – Materials, Victorian toys: What were Victorian toys made of? What are new toys made of? What are the properties of these materials? Which materials are waterproof? Can we sort/group them? Can we carry out simple tests? What materials would be best suited for a Victorian bathing machine/carriage? Science - Seasons: How do we know that it is winter? What changes do we notice? Do all plants lose their leaves? How is the weather/environment changing? History: When was the Victorian era? What clothes did they wear? What was school like? What toys did they play with? What was life like for a Victorian child? What is similar/different to now? What were Victorian holidays like? How did they travel? What was invented in the Victorian era? What did Victorians homes look like? RE: How did the Victorians celebrate Christmas? How is this similar/different to now? Why is Christmas important to Christians? PE - Target games: How do we throw and catch a ball in different ways? How can we aim a ball into a target? How can we improve our control and accuracy? How do we work effectively as a team? PE – Dance: What were Victorian performers and theatres like? How can we move our bodies in different ways? How can we work with others in dance? Can we move/clap/jump to a beat? How can we retell a story through dance? Can we perform to an audience? How can we improve our performance? PSHE – Jigsaw: Celebrating differences Draw a picture of a Victorian steam train. Would you like take a ride on a steam train? Write a sentence to explain why/why not? What do you think it would be like? Go on a winter walk with your family. What changes do you notice? How are the trees/plants changing? Create a list /poem/painting of all the things you saw. Find out what your toys are made of! Create your own dance routine at home! Practise the songs and movements for the Christmas nativity. Can you remember all the lyrics and movements? Year 1 Term 2 Term 2: Victorians Lost in the Toy Museum – David Lucas English MATHS We will be exploring lots of different types of writing inspired by Victorians including: Letters and postcards Story telling Poetry Using captions and labels Character profiles Expressing opinions Instructions Speech Number and place value: How can we write/make/show this number? Is the number odd or even? What number comes before and after? What is ___ more or less? How many tens and ones does it have? How can we show this as a number sentence? Addition and subtraction: What does add/plus/subtract/take-away/minus mean? How can we show this using symbols? How can we use drawings/objects/number lines to help us? What does = mean? CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT (Art, Music, Design technology) DT - Punch and Judy! What were Victorian puppets like? Can we create our own labelled design? How will we construct our own puppets? What materials will we need? Art - Queen Victoria portrait: How do we hold/control a pencil properly? How do we use shape/line in our drawings? Read at least three times a week to earn a gold coin for the reading rainbow! Parents, please use the reading bookmark attached to their reading record to ask your child questions to develop their comprehension. Practise counting as much as possible up to 100. Can they write the number down? What is one more or one less? Learn the months of the year. Practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Draw your own portrait or make your own royal postal stamp! Try using different materials – pens, pencils, crayons, chalk etc.
