Presentation transcript:

Paper Mache Ice Cream Cones

STEP 1 Cut a semi-circle out of cereal box cardboard, and curl it into a cone shape. Hot glue the edges together and tape for reinforcement.

STEP 2 Stuff the cones full of newspaper. Then, start making ice cream scoops by balling up newspaper, wrapping the ball with a smooth piece of newspaper, and then taping the ball with a couple “belts” of tape

STEP 3 Hot glue each scoop to the cone or scoop below it. Once glued, strap the structure up and over with a couple long pieces of tape, crossing like an X on top of the scoop. Attach belts between each scoop as well.

STEP 4 Hot glue and tape Styrofoam balls on top for cherries. Even though you don’t usually get a cherry on your ice cream cone, it looks cool!

STEP 5 Rip up strips of newspaper so that you’ll have a big enough pile to paper mache your ice cream. Also rip up some brown construction paper so that you can paper mache the cone.

STEP 6 Next you’ll need to make Dragon Drool. In order to make this you’ll need to mix 1 cup of flour with 1 cup of water. Mix well to get rid of the lumps.

STEP 7 Rather than dipping the torn paper in the dishes of Dragon Drool, dip your fingertips and then rub it between your palms. This way all you need to do is rub the paper on your palms to saturate it.

STEP 8 Continue smoothing paper onto the project until it’s completely covered. Then do the same with brown paper strips on the cone.

STEP 9 Using paint trays and acrylic paints, tint and paint the proper colors for your desired ice cream from the bottom scoop to the top. Make sure the color matches the ice cream flavor so that it looks believable.

STEP 10 Coat all scoops of ice cream with Mod Podge to make the ice cream look wet and melty. Then, add lines to the cone in order to create texture.
