1. Narrative Coil Vessel Decide what shape you want your coil vessel to be Use cardboard (or just thicker paper) and create a cut out of the profile of your piece. Check often as you build to keep you on track Start building your final piece Check the profile often! Make sure you let it get leather hard before getting too tall Smooth it out every couple of inches. I shouldn’t see your coils in the end. Let it get bone dry Cover in black underglaze (3 coats!!) You can leave the inside uncovered if you want a POP of color (You’ll glaze that later!) Draw your design (your illustration for your story or your zentangle design) on the black slip using chalk Use the etching tools to carve out your design. What you see is what you are going to get! The underglaze will not change in the kiln!

2. Texture Coil Vase Decide what shape you want your coil vessel to be Use cardboard (or just thicker paper) and create a cut out of the profile of your piece. Check often as you build to keep you on track Start building your final piece Check the profile often! Make sure you let it get leather hard before getting too tall Don’t smooth out your piece! Remember to press textures into your pieces before you coil them Be careful with the slip – you won’t want to press/smooth too much to make the textures disappear Try using cut coils, braiding two coils together, different colored clay, etc.

3. Pop Art Food Sculpture Decide what shape you want your coil vessel to be Use cardboard (or just thicker paper) and create a cut out of the profile of your piece. Check often as you build to keep you on track Think BIG!!! Pop are is all about size!! Start building your final piece Check the profile often! Make sure you let it get leather hard before getting too tall Smooth it out every couple of inches. I shouldn’t see your coils in the end (unless it’s a part of your food) After it’s fired, you can choose to glaze or use acrylic paint to finish your piece

4. Pick 2 – Due September 25 th Pop Art Food Sculpture Texture Coil Vase Narrative Coil Vessel Remember: Score and slip EVERY coil Make each approx. 6” Check your shape regularly Stagger where the coil begins Smooth out as you go (if you’re smoothing) Let it get leatherhard at approx. 4” before adding more height
