Keep accidents from occurring. Safe Hand and Power Tool Procedure. Electrical Safety. Personal Safety Gear.

The answer is YES! All accidents are preventable.

Always be aware that hazards could happen at anytime. Always have a positive attitude. Trust in your good attitude and you will be able to prevent accidents from occurring.

If you see an unsafe act happening that could potentially cause harm to that person or others, you are responsible for intervening immediately. Failure to do so may result in serious injury toward that person or others. Failure to report any unsafe activity right when it is noticed is just as responsible for any injuries or damage that could follow.

Always check a tool before use. If a tool is broken, get rid of it. Make sure your work is on a hard surface, such as a work bench, when working with a screwdriver or other tools. Always cut away from yourself! Screwdrivers are not meant for prying things apart.

Make sure you check all equipment before use. Make adjustments with the power off. Use all guards and safety devices. Do not hold your work, use a vice grip. Tie back your hair, roll up your sleeves, and remove any long, dangling jewelry. Make sure your work area is clear at all times.

Look for any signs of damage. Never create an octopus. Octopus-plugging several different cords into the same outlet via an adaptor. Never create a daisy chain. Daisy Chain-plugging several cords together. Make sure the plug is fully inserted into the outlet. Leave all circuit protection in place. Keep the electric panel clear. Never go near electricity with flammables or water.

Turn robot off before making repairs by disconnecting the batteries. With pneumatic energy, open the main valve and be sure all gauges read zero. Relieve tension or compression on any springs. Lower all arms that could potentially drop. Make sure no repairs are done when robot is energized.

Safety Glasses or goggles Ear plugs or ear muffs Gloves Closed toe shoes

Alert Safety Officer. Alert a mentor. If it is a medical emergency, seek immediate attention. In Case of a battery spill, the best solution is baking soda.

Always wear eye protection. It keeps your eyes safe from rouge projectiles. Ear protection is big also. While working, you are surrounded by loud power tools. The human eardrum ruptures at 165 decibels. So its best to have ear protection at all times.

Closed toe shoes worn at all times. Hanging jewelry should be removed prior to working. Long hair should be tied to avoid getting caught in a machine or the robot.

Clean up after yourself. By doing so, you will be both keeping yourself and others safe by not having to trip over your mess. Being neat and tidy is the key to a safe work area.

Everybody follows the rules as laid out by the Safety Officer. We as a team were very neat and very organized when it came to our pit area last year. Our safe habits did not go unnoticed, the judges awarded us with the best pit safety award.
