Physical Fitness The ability to carry out daily tasks easily & have enough reserve energy to respond to unexpected demands

Physical Activity Any form of movement that causes your body to use energy Add it to daily life by…. working out; cleaning your room; playing sports; take the stairs; walking, skating, or ride your bike to places

Benefits of Being In Shape Stronger heart & lungs Healthy blood cholesterol & strong blood vessels Builds strength, endurance, & flexibility Maintains muscle to fat mass = increased metabolism Stress relief, reduce depression, better Sleep

Risks of Being Inactive Sedentary lifestyle Variety of health problems Unhealthy weight gain & obesity Type 2 diabetes, Some cancers Asthma & breathing problems Osteoporosis & osteoarthritis Psychological problems Premature death CVD (heart attack, stroke)

Getting In Shape Anaerobic: intense, short bursts of activity in which the muscles work so hard that they produce energy without using oxygen Improves speed & muscular strength Sprinting, wt. lifting, gymnastics
