Properties of Matter

Physical Properties Physical Properties: Properties that describe how something looks or feels.

Matter Anything that takes up space and has mass

Density The mass of an object per volume Does it sink or float?

Boiling Point of Water 100 C 212 F

Freezing Point of Water 0 C 32 F

Volume The amount of space an object takes up

Solubility The measure of how much of one substance can dissolve into another substance

Weight The pull of gravity on an object

Conductor The ability of a material to carry energy (heat or electricity) Antonym: Insulator

3 States of Matter Takes its own shape Solid Not confined to a space Gas Takes the shape of its container liquid

Mass The amount of matter in an object
