To identify all 5 of Gestalts Laws.

Learn about Gestalt Laws Working together & researching – find out about one of Gestalt’s Laws and create a fact-file for your peers to keep

To identify Gestalt’s Laws In short… the whole is more than the some of it’s parts!

New title: Gestalt’s Laws There are 5 key terms for Gestalt: Figure ground The Law of Similarity The law of proximity The law of continuity The law of closure ALL happen in the optic chiasma (the brain part for vision)

Law of Proximity: The law of proximity states that when an individual perceives an assortment of objects they perceive objects that are close to each other as forming a group.

Law of Similarity The law of similarity states that elements within an assortment of objects are perceptually grouped together if they are similar to each other. This similarity can occur in the form of shape, colour, shading or other qualities.

Law of Closure The law of closure states that individuals perceive objects such as shapes, letters, pictures, etc., as being whole when they are not complete. Specifically, when parts of a whole picture are missing, our perception fills in the visual gap.

Law of Continuity The law of continuity states that elements of objects tend to be grouped together, and therefore integrated into perceptual wholes if they are aligned within an object. In cases where there is an intersection between objects, individuals tend to perceive the two objects as two single uninterrupted entities. Making another object or line when they are two separates.

Figure–ground organization is a type of perceptual grouping which is a vital necessity for recognizing objects through vision. It is known as identifying a figure from the background. For example, you see words on a printed paper as the "figure" and the white sheet as the "background".

Summary Gestalt’s Laws: Figure ground Law of similarity Law of proximity Law of continuity Law of closure Next week- In pairs you are going to be given one of the above laws & create a poster to help you describe the law to the class.
