The Game of Football

Basic Facts The official size of a football field is 100 yards in length and 160 feet in width. Each end zone is 10 yards deep. There are 4 quarters that are 15 minutes each. Each team gets 3 timeouts

The Offense The whole purpose of the offense is to score points In the official game of football the offense gets 4 chances to get 10 yards. If they get those 10 yards they get another 4 chances and so on.

The Quarterback The Quarterback is the leader of the offense He is responsible for throwing the football In most cases he chooses the play the offense runs (run or pass).

The Receiver The receiver is the player responsible for catching the passes from the quarterback

The Running Back The running back is the player on offense who runs with the ball when the quarterback hands the ball off.

The Defense The defense tries to keep the offense from scoring points Defensive backs cover the receivers and try to prevent the quarterback from completing the pass Defensive lineman rush the quarterback trying to hurry his throw. If they get to him before he throws the ball it is a sack.

Turnovers Turnovers include fumbles and interceptions. Fumbles- when the ball carrier drops the ball before going down, if the other team picks the ball up it is theirs Interceptions- when the quarterback throws the ball to the other team and they catch it, the other team then gets the ball
