Overcoming barriers in mathematics Home page Overcoming barriers in mathematics These materials are designed to help Year 5 and Year 6 teachers ensure their children make secure progress from Level 3 to Level 4. The CD focuses on aspects of mathematics that are frequently encountered areas of difficulty – those bits of mathematics children find hard to learn. The materials are organised under the seven strands for mathematics set out in the Framework. They focus on the following cycle: Review – focused questions to help assess current understanding Teach – direct teaching, practical activities, models and images, mathematical vocabulary Practise – opportunity to consolidate understanding Apply – alternative contexts within which learning can be used and applied Review – probing questions to establish learning is secure Key Questions
